Bond’s DBS plunges into a lake

April 30, 2008

Deadlock for the biggest spy in the world! Agent 007 remained with no car while filming the "Quantum of Solace", the newest film in the 007 series.

The stunt man who was driving this unique DBS plunged into an Italian lake while filming one of the most difficult scenes in the movie. The driver of the Aston Martin was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
The accident has major consequences for the film. Italian reports say the car was the only one available for shooting, which has spanned the globe from England to Chile and Mexico.
The production has had some difficulties already. A shoot in the famous Inca ruins of Machu Picchu in Peru had to be scrapped in March due to bad weather. Spain is the next locale for the film, which has British actor Daniel Craig reprising his role as the suave secret agent.

Mercedes about “Sex and the city”

April 28, 2008

Although the all new isn’t scheduled to hit dealers until October 2008 (January 2009 for the U.S.), the opportunity for a vehicle to be showcased in a scene of the summer’s hottest film, Sex and the City, was too good to pass up. It was however, quite challenging to secure an early release from the prototype vault at the Stuttgart factory.

Having not made its debut prior to the shoot on Rodeo Drive, the vehicle had to travel to the US in a cloak of secrecy. Accompanied by a designated Mercedes-Benz representative from Germany, there were many steps taken to protect the visual identity of the beautiful prototype from the outside world. Even the key which opened a tamper-proof container holding the car was locked away in a safe place and only accessible by one security personnel!

The GLK arrived in Long Beach California just days before shooting and was transported to Beverly Hills and kept secret until the cast and crew were ready for the scene. Given that the car had to sit on a public street, security had their hands full keeping the car under wraps until the

Check out Kevin Dillon cruising around in what appears to be a Lincoln but were really not too sure being that we don’t full run of the mill fleet cars all that much!

Sandra Bullock Hit by Drunk Driver

April 21, 2008

Sandra Bullock and her husband Jesse James are fine after surviving a head-on crash with a drunk driver Friday night in Gloucester, Mass. The two were riding in an SUV when a station wagon crossed the center line and hit them, police told the Associated Press. Both vehicles were totaled. The driver, Lucille Gatchell, had a blood-alcohol level of 0.20 percent — more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent. She is to be arraigned Tuesday. Police told the AP that Bullock, 43, was "gracious" and concerned about whether Gatchell was OK.

Crown Jewel: Prince Albert II of Monaco gets a BMW Hydrogen 7

April 19, 2008

For the environmental conscience of the style-conscious elite, we have good news and bad news. The good news is that there’s finally a more suitable alternative to the Toyota Prius. The bad news is that it’s arguably no better looking. But like moths to the limelight, the big names have flocked to the new BMW Hydrogen 7. After being adopted by such stars as Cameron Diaz, Will Ferrell, Jay Leno and Placido Domingo, the latest of the rich and famous to receive the keys to the luxo-enviromobile is none other than His Serene Highness Prince Albert II of Monaco.

The monarch of the tax-haven Mediterranean principality took delivery of the Hydrogen 7 at the Ever Monaco environmental exposition in Monte Carlo, where Prince Albert proclaimed, "I monitor very carefully, in the automobile sector in particular, the development of new technologies". Hmm, guess that means the crown prince reads Autoblog – or our sister-site Autoblog Green, which reported this particular piece of news previously – on a fairly regular basis then. Welcome to the site, your highness.

Unfortunately this means that with only 100 examples of the car being offered to the public, that’s one less for the rest of us. Press release after the jump.

Brad Pitt thinks BMW’s Hydrogen 7 is perfect for Ocean’s 13 premiere

April 16, 2008

At the premiere of Ocean’s 13 at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre last night, Brad Pitt arrived in a BMW Hydrogen 7. Our source didn’t say if Angelina Jolie arrived in a different vehicle, but if you want oodles more photos from the event (both Brad and Angelina were there), here’s IESB’s gratuitous photo gallery with all the stars.

BMW is getting a lot of publicity out of the Hydrogen 7s they’ve got in America. If you go back and watch the video of the AFVI show from April, you’ll notice that this Hydrogen 7 is the exact same one I was able to drive in April (or they switched license plates). I can’t tell from this image if the company removed all the "clean energy" markings from the side (visible here) so as not distract from Mr. Pitt’s suaveness. Whatever the case, let’s pretend that AutoblogGreen is one step closer to being on the A-list. Or something.

Celebrity Cars

Revolutions in the auto industry are few and far between, so this year we are not surprised that the most expensive automobiles are, again, sports cars. A couple of premium sedans and SUVs appear here and there.

The average price of a vehicle has gone up to $351,000 from $341,000, an increase of 3 percent. Automakers increase the prices of blueblood automobiles to hedge against inflation, to compensate for disappointing sales or because they have added new features to the cars.

Sometimes the price increases seem like highway robbery. Saleen’s S7, this year’s most expensive car, costs $120,000 more than it did last year. According to Manhattan Motorcars, Saleen’s New York dealer, the price hike is due to modifications to the S7’s V-8 engine, whose horsepower is now up to 575 from 550. Assume for argument’s sake that’s the only reason for the extra $120K on the sticker, and we’re talking about a cost of about $5,000 for each additional unit of horsepower. If Honda Motor charged $5,000 per horse, a high-end Civic would cost about $800,000.

Of course, you will realize how each car is aimed at buyers for whom money is as disposable as garbage. That’s perhaps why the most expensive cars are sports cars: if you’re going to throw away a ton of money, it had better be on something extremely fun.

You’re not living large until you’ve got the "ride". Celebrities own the hottest machines on the road, from the blazing fast Lamborghini Countache, to the luxurious Bentley Arnage, to the big bad, Cadillac Escalade, these celebrity toys have people turning heads. We list celebrities super sport tuned motors loose for your drooling pleasure.

Fat Joe loves his Bentley Arnage so much, he showed up to his Sprint/Nextel commercial in it. One of celebrity elite vehicles on the road for it’s superb craftsmenship, supreme comfort, and charged motor power, the Bentley Arnage shows off.

You may recognize Bam Margera from his stint on Jack-Ass and his own MTV show, Viva La Bam. You may also recognize Bam’s orange Hummer H2. The one item seemingly industructable to Bam Margera’s fury. No wonder the Hummer is growing into what it is today, A durable SUV, built to last, along with a cool looking design for the fashion friendly.

Celebrities advertise for cars and trucks all the time. Remember when Michael Jordan shared the television with the Cheverolet S-10. Chevy trucks were at their peak. Maybe that has something to do with lowering sales. Chevy trucks were good enough for Jordan, so they’re good enough for any celebrity

Britney Spears Car Accident

Looks like the trouble – maker “Miss American Dream” has got into a car accident. Fortunately when she was tested if she had been drinking she was clean. Britney Spears drove into the back of the vehicle in front of her and that way all three cars smashed one into another.

Though it was a minor accident it’s no good for Britney and I’m sure her dad won’t be happy about it. All three drivers were let go without a ticket but Brit was asked to take a shotgun-seat and let her bodyguard drive the car. She was also given police escort back home.

David Beckham is booked again… but this time by the traffic cops

April 10, 2008

David Beckham was booked again yesterday – but this time it was off the pitch. Following his yellow card during his 100th international in Paris last month, the footballer was caught making an illegal manoeuvre in Los Angeles on Wednesday. Beckham was fined by police for making an illegal left turn at a right turn only junction.

The LA Galaxy ace was driving at the junction of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in West Hollywood when he made the forbidden manoeuvre. Unfortunately for the 32-year-old soccer ace, his illegal move was spotted by a traffic officer, who promptly stopped Beckham in his tracks.

After pulling over his £35,000 Cadillac Escalade, Beckham didn’t seem too bothered by his brush with the law as he smiled at the approaching policeman.

Despite a friendly chat with the officer, Beckham was ticketed for the violation.

Beckham was fined $160 (£80) on the spot and will receive one point on his licence – unless he goes to traffic school.
This isn’t the first time Beckham’s been in trouble over his driving.
In 1999, Beckham was convicted of speeding in his Ferrari in Alderly Edge, Cheshire.

He successfully appealed an eight month driving ban after claiming he was only speeding to get away from pursuing paparazzi
Meanwhile, Beckham has regained his place as the world’s highest-paid footballer.
France Football magazine’s annual list shows Beckham has overtaken 2007 and 2006’s number one Ronaldinho.
Thanks to his LA Galaxy salary and his numerous endorsements and Beckham brand products, the star earned £24.7million.

Paris Hilton’s little brother, Barron Hilton, has pleaded no contest to DUI.

April 9, 2008

Paris Hilton’s little brother, Barron Hilton, has pleaded no contest to DUI.

On Wednesday, a judge ordered the 18-year-old to serve three years probation and to visit an L.A. County Morgue (Lindsay Lohan was ordered to make the same trip). He also had his drivers license yanked for one year.

Hilton was arrested in February after police say he drove drunk, showed them a fake ID and rammed his Mercedes into a Malibu gas station employee.
