Shia LaBeouf car accident

July 30, 2008

Shia LaBeouf will be absent from the set of Transformers for a month after injuring his hand following an allegedly drunken car accident in Los Angeles yesterday.

The star will need “extensive surgery” on his hand as a result of the collision, in which his truck flipped across a road after hitting another vehicle.

LaBeouf was taken to hospital following the accident where he was treated for injuries to his head, left hand and knee. His unnamed passenger sustained a minor head injury, according to TMZ.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with drink driving. Reports suggest the actor will be cited and released on suspicion of a DUI misdemeanour.

And now, the star’s representatives have confirmed he had to have surgery on the damaged hand, and will be absent from the set of the Transformers sequel for at least one month.

The spokesperson says: "Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008.

"Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time."

LaBeouf’s brushes with the law are nothing new – in November last year, he was booked on trespassing charges after refusing to leave a drugstore in Chicago, Illinois and in February, he was charged with smoking in a prohibited area in California.
