David Beckham: There Was No Car Crash!

August 28, 2008

Soccer stud David Beckham just blogged about how lucky he was to participated in the Olympics handover ceremony. He also took out the time to debunk rumors that he and wife Victoria were in a car crash. Here’s what Becks had to say via his blog:

“Hi everyone, I was really honored to be part of the handover ceremony on Sunday in Beijing. I’m a keen supporter of the Olympics coming to London; it will have an incredible impact on the East End of London and the British will embrace the event and show how much passion they have for sport. As I’ve said many times, we deserve a global event on this scale in our country.

“The Beijing Olympics were about the great sporting moments and the Great Britain team exceeded all expectations. To finish fourth in the medal table and take home so many medals was amazing and they can all be very proud of themselves. This sort of success always encourages kids to take up sport and do well and many are already getting ready for 2012 and want to be involved in it. I was also lucky to see the US play Spain in the basketball final, I’m pleased for my friend Kobe [Bryant] who wanted so much to win gold for his country. I was impressed with Spain, they never gave up, but the US probably deserved to win over the length of the tournament.

“On another note, I know many of you would have been concerned to read about a supposed car crash involving me and Victoria. I want to assure everyone there never was any crash at any time; our car had been dented many days before whilst vacant in a car park.”

George Clooney Buys A $28K Car For A Female Driver Whose Vehicle He Hit In An Accident

August 21, 2008

George Clooney bought a $28,000 car for a motorist whose vehicle he hit in a road accident. The “Ocean’s Thirteen” actor shunted a female driver’s Lancia Ypsilon from behind with his large sedan while out in Pennabilli, Italy. He accepted full blame for the accident and left the surprised woman a replacement vehicle with a note of apology attached to the windscreen. It read: “I’m so sorry. Hope you’ll forgive me. George Clooney.” This is not the first car accident for the 47-year-old heartthrob. Last September, Clooney was rushed to hospital after a car knocked him and then-girlfriend Sarah Larson off his motorcycle. The star suffered a fractured rib and burns, while Larson broke her foot. A spokesman for the actor insisted it was the fault of the Mazda driver involved while the accused claims the “Syriana” actor was attempting to overtake him on the right, a maneuver banned in New Jersey where the accident happened.

David Beckham spotted driving his new Rolls Royce convertible

August 18, 2008

When you are rich, it shows. This midfield Los Angeles Galaxy footballer needs no introduction. His lavish lifestyle has photographers staying up until all hours to grab that one last shot and in this latest picture, he is found cruising around in his fully customized Rolls Royce Phantom Drophead in the streets of Beverly hills accompanied by his three sons.

This Drophead stands on custom-built 24-inch Savini Forged wheels, color-matched exterior trim and Beckham’s “23” seamed onto the seats.

Jamie Lee Curtis gets Honda FCX Clarity

August 15, 2008

Q: How do you get more people to pay attention to your alternative fuel car? A: Star power.

BMW sold the first hydrogen powered 7-Series to Will Ferrell, General Motors got a photo with any person of note willing to suffer time in the little EV1, and now the second delivery Honda FCX Clarity hydrogen powered car went to Jamie Lee Curtis.

But if Honda feels that it needs celebrities to get people to take notice of the car, then remember to make sure they sell the car for you. "I really wasn’t expecting it to be so luxurious," said Curtis. "It’s luxurious, luxurious, luxurious! I love the interior layout, design and access to controls. It is user-friendly and very modern." Sell it Jamie, sell it.

Repo Man Attempts to Repossess Lil Kim’s Bentley: Too Many Possible Filthy Bylines To Pick One

August 13, 2008

Apparently, a recessive economy isn’t just hurting the little people. According to a report run by the CW11, rapper Lil’ Kim was paid a visit by the Repo Man back in late April after missing 4 payments on her silver Bentley. Declining to hand over the keys to her ride, Kim assured the Repo Man that she’d “have her accountant look into it”

After the story aired, Lil Kim’s rep [she has a representative? Ah, cute little allusions of grandeur] responded to the story by explaining that the $250,000 Bentley was in fact a gift bequeathed to her four years ago by hip-hop music producer Scotty Storch. It was Storch who apparently defaulted on the payments [guess that Brooke Hogan and Paul Wall collabo didn’t hit as big as he thought it would…tough break, kid], prompting Tracy Nguyen [Kim’s rep] to explain to E! news that the matter was “completely out of Kim’s hands.”

Cristiano Ronaldo buys £350k Rolls-Royce

August 11, 2008

Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has forked out a reported £350,000 on a Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe.
The Portuguese midfielder bought the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe from Doncaster-based luxury car dealer Liquid 45.
The Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe’s £350,000 pricetag wouldn’t have deterred the Man United star who is thought to earn around £130,000 per week at the Old Trafford outfit.
With a 6.75-litre V12 engine under the bonnet, the Rolls-Royce Phantom Drophead Coupe is regarded as the world’s ultimate convertible developing 453bhp and 531lb/ft of pulling power.

This accelerates the luxurious British car from 0-62mph (100kph) in 5.7 seconds and on to a top speed of 149mph.
But it’s features such as the leather trim which is made from the hides of 17 bulls that makes the convertible such a stunning machine.
The Roller is the latest dream machine which the Portuguese icon has splashed out on.
In the past, Ronaldo has owned an Aston Martin DB9, BMW 6 Series, Ferrari F430 and Audi R8.
It’s also believed Ronaldo was so impressed with the Bugatti Veyron he raced in a Nike commercial he put his name down on the waiting list for the £830,000 hypercar.
And his old Porsche Cayenne was recently for sale on Auto Trader, and was promptly snapped up.
The Phantom Drophead Coupe is a super-exclusive car with the likes of former England captain David Beckham owning one.
Like Ronaldo, Beckham also wore the number seven shirt at United before leaving for Real Madrid – a club which has spent the summer trying to sign the Portuguese winger.
Ronaldo’s latest extravagance is likely to intensify the car park war going on at Manchester United where multi-millionaire footballers such asRio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney are continuously trying to outdo each other with their choice of motor.

Adam Carolla ready to bring own brand of dry wit and unfiltered thoughts to NBC’s “Top Gear”

August 9, 2008

Quick Stats: Adam Carolla, comic, radio DJ, and TV host of NBC’s "Top Gear"
Daily Driver: 2007 Audi S4 (Adam’s rating 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10)
Other cars: 1995 Ford Explorer (no rating: used as a work truck); 13 cars include Lamborghinis, Ferraris, BMW, Aston Martin, Datsuns (Rating: likes all his cars, but the old Lambos are his "babies" or "kids")
Favorite road trip: Highway 1 up to Pebble Beach, Calif.
Car he learned to drive in: 1975 Volkswagen Rabbit
First car bought: 1978 Mazda pickup truck

There are those "Top Gear" purists who feel the show is Clarkson, Hammond, and May and that any other host would border on blasphemy. Then there are enthusiasts who just can’t get enough and are eager to see NBC’s U.S. permutation of this worldwide juggernaut with comedian Adam Carolla at the helm.

Celebrity Drive Adam Carolla With Jag XJR

Carolla has been on TV since MTV’s "Loveline" and Comedy Central’s "The Man Show" and most recently competed on ABC’s "Dancing with the Stars." Listeners of his syndicated radio show know Carolla will bring his own brand of dry wit and unfiltered thoughts to "Top Gear." His honest rants about cars hint he might just satiate our need for more of the British auto show (with a 21-year waiting list), even if his name isn’t Jeremy Clarkson. Carolla’s 13-car collection is housed in a warehouse (which includes a heavy dose of his affinity for classic Italian sports cars). There are three he saw on eBay—a 1973 Datsun 510, a 1965 Lamborghini 350 GT (of 120 built), and his latest purchase, a Bob Sharp 1972 Datsun 610 No. 33. The others are a 1972 Porsche; a blue 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2 (of 247 built); a red 1967 Lamborghini 400 GT 2+2; a 1975 Ferrari Dino 308 GT4; a 1999 Jaguar XJR; a 1989 BMW M3; a 2001 BMW M3; a 2004 Ferrari Stradale, which he wants to sell; a 2004 Aston Martin DB9; a 1984 Nissan 300ZX, which was Paul Newman’s old race car. At home, Carolla has a 1995 Ford Explorer he calls a "junker" for schlepping to the hardware store. But his daily driver is a 2007 Audi S4, a deliberate lease to get him to the 97.1 Free FM studio for his morning drive show. Carolla emphasizes certain words when he wants to underscore a point.

Lindsay Lohan Denies Motorcycle Accident

August 7, 2008

A few days ago, Michael Lohan claimed his daughter was in an accident with a motorcycle which caused the actress to seek treatment at Beth Israel in NYC. Lindsay’s rep was interviewed by Entertainment Tonight and denies the validity of the story.

"I spoke to Lindsay and she said this didn’t happen."

But that isn’t stopping the actress’ father. He still insists the incident, which happened outside a club on 32nd Street still occurred.

"She’s not hurt. That’s all I really care about."

Grammy Award winner Shelby Lynne enjoys cars the same way she enjoys guitars

August 4, 2008

Shelby LynneQuick Stats: Shelby Lynne Grammy award winner
Daily Driver: 2005 Jeep Wrangler (Shelby’s rating 8.5 on a scale of 1 to 10)
Favorite road trip: Los Angeles to Vegas
Car she learned to drive in: 1969 Nova
First car bought: 1967 Chevrolet Camaro

Grammy award winning singer/songwriter Shelby Lynne enjoys cars like she enjoys her guitars and has owned more cars than she can remember.Shelby Lynne By Car

"They’re kind of like guitars to me – you just enjoy them," she said. "I have friends that have cool guitar collections and they go, "I’m not going to play it.’ I’m going, ‘Well, why the hell do you have it? You want to look at it?’ I’m the same way about cars – drive them, have fun, when you get tired of them, turn them in. They’re not some precious jewels. They’re cars and guitars. Have fun with them and then get something else."
She starts to list them and realizes how many cars she owned. "I just realized that talking to you, I’m going damn! If I had to count them all I bet I couldn’t. I’ve had a car since I was old enough to drive."
Her past cars include an old 1979 Jeep CJ, which she paid $3,000 for and felt she got ripped off, since she sold it six months later for $1,500. She’s had both a BMW 3 series and 7 series, which she says, "it’s heavy, it’s a big car, but it still drives a little bit like a sports car. It’s just got that tight to the ground feel."

The best car Lynne has owned was when she has 18 she had a 1984 two-toned black and gold Pontiac Grand Prix, which "would just fly," she said. "I loved it, loved it. It was in my wild time of driving. I would drive that thing pedal to the medal all day long. Just bad ass. I would drive from Monroe to Jackson, Alabama in 45 minutes. Just hauling. You know, being a stupid young ‘un. Never ever did she hiccup once."
Lynne’s worst car was a maroon 1984 Mazda 626 she bought in 1987, which was reliable, but she said, "I just felt like an idiot driving it, I thought, this is not me."
Lynne says she doesn’t buy a car unless she has cash. "I like paying cash for my cars," she says. "You never get your money out of the vehicle. Ever. Ever, ever, ever."
Growing up in rural south Alabama, Lynne learned to drive on her dad’s 1976 Ford pick up with a "three on the tree" gear shifter, when she could barely touch the clutch.
"I’ve been driving since I was nine years old. I grew up in the country so we had plenty of places to drive without having to get on the road," Lynne explains. "I wanted to drive so bad. I was driving cars on the road way before I got my driver’s license, that’s what you do when you’re from the South. You put it off as long as you can and then finally you have to break down and get a license because you need to go get a job. It’s just a pain in the ass, who wants to go to DMV?"
