After Barkley was processed, he was cited and left in a cab.

Shia LaBeouf: Car Crash “Eye Opening, Terrifying”

September 24, 2008

Shia LaBeouf is speaking out about his July car crash, which he calls "eye opening and terrifying.

"The car hit me at 70 mph," the 22-year-old told Entertainment Tonight over the weekend while promoting his new flick, Eagle Eye.

"It was one of the biggest things that’s happened to me, for sure, in my life," he added. "I’m grateful to be here."

LaBeouf was partying at West Hollywood’s Troubadour Club before the July 27 crash that flipped his truck. After the accident, he was booked on suspicion of DUI (police later said the other driver was at fault for running a red light).

LaBeouf underwent extensive hand surgery to repair two of his fingers, which were "pretty mashed," in the accident, Transformers director Michael Bay later said. (His injury has been written into the movie’s sequel.)

He recently told Access Hollyood he will have more surgery "to be back to 100 percent."

He said he was thankful his accident injured only his hand.

Said LaBeouf, "It could have been something else."

David Beckham: There Was No Car Crash!

August 28, 2008

Soccer stud David Beckham just blogged about how lucky he was to participated in the Olympics handover ceremony. He also took out the time to debunk rumors that he and wife Victoria were in a car crash. Here’s what Becks had to say via his blog:

“Hi everyone, I was really honored to be part of the handover ceremony on Sunday in Beijing. I’m a keen supporter of the Olympics coming to London; it will have an incredible impact on the East End of London and the British will embrace the event and show how much passion they have for sport. As I’ve said many times, we deserve a global event on this scale in our country.

“The Beijing Olympics were about the great sporting moments and the Great Britain team exceeded all expectations. To finish fourth in the medal table and take home so many medals was amazing and they can all be very proud of themselves. This sort of success always encourages kids to take up sport and do well and many are already getting ready for 2012 and want to be involved in it. I was also lucky to see the US play Spain in the basketball final, I’m pleased for my friend Kobe [Bryant] who wanted so much to win gold for his country. I was impressed with Spain, they never gave up, but the US probably deserved to win over the length of the tournament.

“On another note, I know many of you would have been concerned to read about a supposed car crash involving me and Victoria. I want to assure everyone there never was any crash at any time; our car had been dented many days before whilst vacant in a car park.”

Shia LaBeouf car accident

July 30, 2008

Shia LaBeouf will be absent from the set of Transformers for a month after injuring his hand following an allegedly drunken car accident in Los Angeles yesterday.

The star will need “extensive surgery” on his hand as a result of the collision, in which his truck flipped across a road after hitting another vehicle.

LaBeouf was taken to hospital following the accident where he was treated for injuries to his head, left hand and knee. His unnamed passenger sustained a minor head injury, according to TMZ.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with drink driving. Reports suggest the actor will be cited and released on suspicion of a DUI misdemeanour.

And now, the star’s representatives have confirmed he had to have surgery on the damaged hand, and will be absent from the set of the Transformers sequel for at least one month.

The spokesperson says: "Attorneys for Mr. LaBeouf confirm that an automobile accident involving an additional party occurred early morning in Los Angeles on July 27, 2008.

"Shia is currently recovering from extensive hand surgery with plans to return to work on the set of Transformers 2 within one month. No further comment will be issued at this time."

LaBeouf’s brushes with the law are nothing new – in November last year, he was booked on trespassing charges after refusing to leave a drugstore in Chicago, Illinois and in February, he was charged with smoking in a prohibited area in California.

Terrence Kiel Dies in Car Crash: Former Charger Football Player

July 22, 2008

Terrence Kiel, former San Diego Chargers safety, dies in car crash at age 27.

Terrence Kiel was driving alone after leaving a party at around 10:15 on July 4 night. Kiel’s car hit a wall, and he was ejected from the vehicle. Terrence Kiel, 27, died about an hour later.

According to police, witnesses saw Kiel driving the wrong way down the road before his 2004 Chevy sedan rolled near an intersection in Scripps Ranch, a part of San Diego.

Emergency teams responded, but Terrence Kiel was barely breathing by the time they reached him. The Lufkin, Texas man was pronounced dead at 11:28 p.m.

Police were told that friends attempted to keep Kiel from driving home from the party, and witnesses said Kiel was driving the wrong direction before the accident.

Terrence Kiel was a four-year starter at Texas A&M and a second-round pick of the Chargers in 2003. Three months after he was drafted, Kiel was shot three times in an attempted carjacking, but he made a complete recovery and played all 16 games as a rookie. During the 2006 season DEA agents showed up at the Chargers’ headquarters to arrest Kiel for shipping prescription cough syrup to Texas as part of an effort to distribute a drink known as “lean,” which mixes soft drinks with codeine cough syrup.

The Chargers released Kiel after he pleaded guilty to that charge, and he never played in the NFL again.

Condolences to his family and friends.
